Abstract
Objectives : Intellectual disability (ID) is known to be associated with an increased risk of comorbidities. We aimed to investigated the prevalence rates of comorbidities of individuals with ID.

Methods : This study used data from the Korea Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service-National Patient Sample (HIRA-NPS) for 2016. A total of 2,005 individuals with ID and 1,467,905 individuals without ID were included. The prevalence rates and odds ratios of psychiatric and medical comorbidities between two groups were analyzed.

Results : The prevalence rates of comorbidities in ID group was higher across different types of co- morbidities compared with non-ID group. The comorbidities most commonly observed in ID were schizophrenia spectrum disorder (20.64%), followed by depressive disorder (17.64%), bipolar disorder (15.81%), ADHD (13.17%), anxiety disorder (12.69%), sleep disorder (7.68%), autism spectrum disorder (6.01%).

Conclusion : Our results suggest that the people with ID are more likely to suffer psychiatric comorbidities than those without ID.
